Isaiah 50 describes the person who walks in the fear of the Lord. Part of the process of spiritual maturity is coming to the edge of our understanding, then walking on ahead without knowing what will happen next. God sometimes calls us, as He called Peter, to walk on water—to proceed in faith, but with uncertainty. Walking in darkness as it is used here doesn't refer to moral darkness that comes from sin or demonic oppression. It simply means walking in unknown territory without clear light and reassuring direction.
